Cirba Solutions and the US Department of Energy celebrate the expansion of Ohio's lithium-ion battery recycling business.

Cirba Solutions is the largest and most comprehensive battery material and scrap battery and super factory manufacturing waste management team, celebrating the expansion of the company's lithium-ion processing business in Lancaster, Ohio.

The expansion of over $200 million has been supported to some extent by over $82 million from the Department of Energy (DOE), which aims to support the cycle battery supply chain and further promote cost-effective lithium-ion battery processing and key material supply.

As part of President Biden's bipartisan infrastructure law, Cirba Solutions became the first company to officially receive funding from the US Department of Energy's Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chain (MESC) funding program. This funding highlights that the first phase of the new law provides a total funding of over $7 billion, specifically for the battery supply chain, aimed at expanding domestic manufacturing of electric vehicle (EV) batteries and grids.

The Lancaster event was attended by US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, representatives of federal, state, and local governments, and executives from Cirba Solutions. As part of its expansion, Cirba Solutions is expanding its existing scale and adding hydrometallurgical processes to produce battery grade metal salts from scrap lithium-ion batteries and super factory waste.

Cirba Solutions will become one of the first companies in North America to use advanced technology to extract key metals such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese from lithium-ion batteries, supplying domestic manufacturers of precursor and positive electrode active materials.

Seconds. Graham said:

With Lancaster's long history of manufacturing and recycling expertise, the expansion of the Cirba Solutions factory will provide significant support for a sustainable battery supply chain centered around the United States.

The investment in this expansion, including funding provided by the President's investment in the US agenda, will support the facility in mining sufficient battery grade key minerals to power 200000 new electric vehicles annually and create 150 high paying jobs. The demand for the next few decades - for Ohio people looking to establish long-term and valuable careers, this is an excellent opportunity

David Klanecky, President and CEO of Cirba Solutions, stated:

We are honored and proud that US Secretary of Energy Graham is celebrating this important moment with us, and we are grateful for the continued support and cooperation with the Department of Energy in our efforts to achieve a clean energy future.

As the demand for battery materials continues to increase, this investment is crucial for the lithium-ion battery industry. With the help of the US Department of Energy, Cirba Solutions can make greater progress in battery recycling to complete the closed-loop supply chain in North America - the expansion of our Lancaster factory in Ohio has greatly helped our growth trajectory

North America's production of scrapped batteries ranks third in the world, and utilizing the key materials inside these batteries is crucial for achieving a sustainable future. In addition, recyclability plays a crucial role in ensuring the traceability and complete recycling of these materials. After completion, the Lancaster factory will produce sufficient high-quality battery grade key minerals to power over 200000 electric vehicle batteries annually.

In addition, Cirba Solutions recently announced plans to build a flagship electric vehicle battery recycling factory in South Carolina, which is expected to provide high-quality battery grade key minerals annually to power over 500000 electric vehicles. This expanding footprint is part of its investment of over $1 billion in the industry over the next five years, and plans to increase its material processing capacity by 600%.
