Nikon has released a multifunctional large volume X-ray CT system VOXLS 40 C 450, which is very suitable for lithium-ion battery module inspection.

The VOXLS 40 C 450 includes a single cabinet containing a metrological grade, granite based robotic arm, and features dual X-ray sources and dual detectors, providing the maximum scanning range for single cabinet systems on the market. This system includes two microfocal X-ray sources exclusively manufactured by Nikon. One source has a rated voltage of 450 kV for penetrating large or dense components, while the other source has a rated voltage of 225 kV for inspecting smaller or lower density components.

This large capacity new X-ray CT system can inspect items of different sizes and densities both internally and externally, enabling it to perform almost unlimited tasks in industry, inspection institutions, and academia. Whether it is lithium-ion battery modules or the batteries they contain, aerospace or automotive parts manufactured with additives, or carbon fiber chassis components of Formula One racing cars, they will all benefit from non-destructive testing.

It is also suitable for high-resolution detection of small parts, making the device a truly versatile resource for research and development, fault analysis, first article inspection, and quality control.

Completely redesigned, considering automation

The electric radiation safety door is carefully designed and can be opened or closed within six seconds.

When integrated with robot loaders and Nikon Automation OPC UA interfaces, this system can achieve automated high-speed closed-loop detection in the Quality 4.0 production line environment.

The highly versatile VOXLS 40 C 450 is also the first system in the innovative series of high-performance X-ray CT systems, providing higher levels of accuracy, resolution, and scanning speed. Subsequently, more compact but structurally similar new models will soon be launched, utilizing the same metrological level robotic arm concept, Nikon's unique microfocal X-ray source technology, and its extensive CT acquisition modes.
